Sellers, McKeithan and Cartret (55 years of Public Service) About the Founders William “Bruce” Sellers established Sellers bonding in 1971 and led the company until his death in 1998.
For a period, Randy McKeithan operated the state’s largest bonding firm until his passing in 2003. A family member of Bruce’s lineage, Mark Cartret, who owned a statewide bonding firm called “Around the Clock Bail Bonding, Inc,” assumed leadership from the McKeithan family in 2003. Cartret—a licensed professional and surety bondsman who was a real estate broker—also founded and operated Cartret Surety, LLC (now North State Surety, LLC).
He merged the two entities, creating North Carolina’s largest retail bail operation. He served as president of the North Carolina Bail Agents Association and founded a training school for bail agents.
Cartret was inducted into the North Carolina Bail Agents Hall of Fame. At one time, he was the largest professional bondsman in North Carolina and a founder of North Carolina’s first special-purpose fidelity and surety insurance company, offering judicial appearance bonds. As of 2026, he has been a licensed bail agent and bondsman for over 30 years.
